Bill McCabe is a Boston based athlete and family man. He is a devoted husband to Alberta McCabe father of three children and grandfather to eight. Bill is an extreme athlete with a purpose. From his successful winter summit on Mount Washington to his one-day Presidential Traverse attempt seven peaks in one day; Bill has inspired many while raising thousands for his favorite causes. He is presently traveling to the Great Wall of China Marathon working to complete running a marathon on each of the seven continents.
Bill is a triathlete, mountaineer, ultra marathoner political activist, and philanthropist. He is a self-proclaimed everyman proving that you do not have to be an elite runner to succeed in long distance running and ultra events. Stopped at mile 26 in the 2013 Boston marathon because of the bombings he has vowed that he will never be stopped again. Bill did return to Boston and completed the 2014 Boston Marathon with over 35,000 runners proving that we will never be intimidated.
He has run over 38 marathons, qualified for Boston Marathon twice and completed running the Boston Marathon route 26 weeks in a row staring on April 16, 2012 and ending on October 6, 2012. (26for26.comblog). He has completed all of these tests after turning 55 years old.
His current assignment is the ironwillchallenge.com Boston to Beijing & Back in which he will attempt to run 2,620 miles to raise funds for Boston Marathon Bombing survivor Marc Fucarile who was severely injured at the finish line and lost a limb and suffered other numerous injuries. Bill will run one marathon (26.2 miles) for every day that Marc was in the hospital (100 days). The entire mileage totals including training runs and scheduled races will be tracked on Nike Plus. His greatest mission in life is to help others in need and to promote healthy lifestyle changes including running and diet and to inspire others. “We don’t know the meaning of the words it can’t be done.”
